Animal Rights advocates are well-known for their vitriol; especially when someone has the temerity, the unspeakable gall to challenge their claims on any given issue.  Not being the sort to suffer in silence, they will on occasion lash out - and when they do it in e-mail to the PATHWAI Archive crew, we 1) enjoy a good laugh over it, and 2) post it here on this page.

Their own words speak far more eloquently than we ever could.  Enjoy!

Just wondering if consistency is important to you.  (Sure it is, Tom.  But it isn't to animal rights activists, as we've proven time and again.)

If you really care about humans, how come you don't promote any human rights campaigns?  (Who says we don't?  It's not an either-or, Tom; we can support human rights while denouncing clueless, anti-science animal rights nonsense.  No conflict.  No inconsistency.)

Undoubtedly there are people all over the world who are treated worse than dogs and cats here in the U.S. How about supporting women's education in the muslim world? That would be a great cause. Or fighting poverty in sub-saharan Africa? Or even fighting child poverty and homelessness in this country.  (We do, of course, but that doesn't stop us from denouncing clueless animal rights nitwittery.)

To be quite honest, I don't see how your site makes any sense except as a way to confuse people about animal issues (No, Tom, we educate people about animal issues - and we support our arguments with facts and references that people can check for themselves.) and promote industries that systematically abuse animals, (So do you, Tom - whoops!  What was that about consistency?)  but somehow I doubt you want to promote cruelty to animals, so I guess I'll just keep wondering what in the world is going on with you folks.  (We like to call it "telling the truth," something that animal rights people don't seem to be able to do.)

Thanks!

Tom Franklin

(Thank YOU, Tom - at least you can spell, which puts you miles ahead of most of our Hate Mail correspondents!)

i am extremly dissapointed that people like you think that animals are some "meat-machines" for fur machines. animals can feel pain and are cruely treated.  you are setting the animal rights movments back (thnakfuly only by a few months).  (Haw haw haw!)  and unfportunetly you people cant be hunted and skinned.  (Goober just oozes compassion.)  so until we can im going to bad mouth your web site  (Please do - we can't get any better recommendation than that!)

Back to what we're accustomed to seeing as "typical" animal rights kook writing skills - lazy, sloppy and piss-poor.

This gem surprised us; it came from someone with decent writing skills.

To bad her logic skills aren't equally up to par.

After reading your web site, and very little of it, (why very little, Elizabeth?  What are you afraid of?) all I can say is, thank GOD for Peta and others who are out there ensuring that animals are treated fairly.  (Oh, yes- we've seen how fairly PeTA treats animals.)   If it is left to people such as yourself, then we would have what is going on in China and their killing of dogs and cats for furs would be done here.  (Straw man, Elizabeth.  Nobody here is advocating that.  You'd know that, if you had read more than 'very little' of our site.)

Animals are not ours. This is stated in the Bible, but I have to believe that you and your group don't believe in the Bible, so I won't waste my time.   (Some of us do, and some of us don't - but, Elizabeth, the VAST MAJORITY of Biblical scholars do not agree with you.)

The animals need someone to stand up for them. (Like these PeTA employees?)  They are being treated as if they were dirt under our feet.  (You mean like this?)   This is not what the Bible says, and to many people don't know what the Bible says and in their own minds they think it means we have full control over them. (Is that what these people thought when they tossed the bodies of puppies and kittens in dumpsters?)  When in fact it states that we were to take care of them, to treat them as if they were our children. So I don't think you want to eat your children, or maybe you do??  (Can you make an argument without straw men, Elizabeth?)

In fact the more I read your web site the more I worry about people such as yourselves! If it is so easy to kill then it may be easy to kill just about anything, and that scares the hell out of me.   (No reason to be scared of us, Elizabeth.  Maybe you should be afraid of these people, though.)

my god it must have taken you about a year (it took about a month.  If you refer to our front page, you'll see this statement:

This may come as some surprise to you, Jessica, but you aren't the center of the universe.  Sorry.  Although this one came in on a weekend day when one of us was actually putting some things up on the Archive.  So, you should be happy!) to put my e-mail on your website. you guys really are slow. (note that i'm spelling 'you' the way you'll find it in a dictionary just so it's not too challenging for people with small brains).   (Your overall spelling and punctuation still need a lot of help.  Have you looked into that remedial writing course?)   have you really not got anything better to do with your life than make a complete twat of yourself, woody (or whatever your name is)?  (Hint:  "Woody" is a generic pseudonym for the intrepid crew of PATHWAI operatives.) do you actually think anybody really takes you seriously?!  (Quite a few people - including two Congressmen that we know of - do indeed.) this site is lame compared to the good-quality pro-animal rights sites i've come across and judging by your site meter you don't seem to have very many visitors either. (Most of our work is done off-line, in fact.)  oh well, maybe you should stop wasting your time in front of your computer and get some fresh air. it'll do you good. (and maybe you'll get run over in the process which would do all of us good).  (And maybe, Jessica, one day you'd like to actually point out something you think is inaccurate on our site?  Or is that too much to ask?  And, is it too much to ask you to write in complete, properly punctuated sentences?  Although, we admit, this is fairly typical of the level of rhetoric you see on those "good-quality, pro-animal rights" sites we've come across.)

This gem from chodewick moyzer, who hides behind the patently fake email address [chodewick@imaterrorist.com]:  Short, and to the point:

I hope you put this on your website so everyone knows that you are a jackass in my opinion....

There's that wonderful AR "compassion" again.  Chadwick, or whatever your name really is, please know that we wish you nothing but the best, and further, we hope you have a long, healthy life, so that you may go on making a fool of yourself for a long, long time.

Why is it that so many AR supporters have such a poor command of written English, anyway?

After a while, we got another lovely email from "Jessica Gröling" <jess87@2die4.com(Note:  All of the poor spelling, grammar, punctuation, and so on - all of that is Jessica's.  Reproduced here verbatim, word for word, character for character.  Enjoy.)

well, well. i just happened to stop by ur (sic) website and found my e-mail on your hate mail site.... i do have a few objections to ur(sic) reaction tho(sic). unlike woody, my dear friend, i am not afraid to stand for what i believe. my name, in fact, is not a fake, and neither is my e-mail address, but judging by the fact that i haven't gotten any e-mails from u(sic), (and the point of that would be, exactly, what?)  i guess u(sic) haven't even tried.... oh well. maybe ur(sic) not that convinced of ur(sic) cause after all. and btw, another piece of advice coming from a webmaster myself, u should maybe think of updating ur(sic) site once in a while, the content gets a bit 'repetitive'..... (ps: look it up if u(sic) don't know what that means)

Jessica:  Look up your local community college and take a remedial writing course, OK?  There you will learn to spell big words like "you're," "you," and "though."

This gem from "David" <ushdogg@verizon.net>

Dear PATHWAI webmaster,

After doing some research online I came across your site. I try and stay open minded to all causes, even those based around hate.  (Incoming clue, David - we don't hate anyone or anything.  We strongly disapprove of dishonesty.  Animal Rights is a "philosophy" that is fundamentally phony.)  I feel that every cause has bad sides and a good.one at heart. I think I understand what your statement is(even though you dance around it). I dont know if this email will make it to you, but oh well.

Your view is that a humans life is more important, more valuble, than that of an animals. (Incoming clue, David - human lives are more important than animal lives.)  But that is a very hard stance to take, and one that was taken by Nazi's of jews, and Whites of Blacks.  (Incoming clue, David - Jews and blacks are humans.) As much as you would like to believe that all ARA's are cold hearted freaks towards humans, you are wrong. We do value a human life over animals, but we know that the animal still values its own life just as much as we do our own. I think its pretty obvious that an elephant does not exist for humans to exploit. It exists for its own reasons. And we have no need to subject that elephant to our own desires. It is obviously more "convienent" and in some cases, safer. But that does not change the morality of it. If a beings value of its own life means nothing, then what gives that being value?

The statement made by Peta about ARA's being against animal testing even if they found a cure for aids is true, even though distorted. ARA's are not saying that we would be against a cure for aids, but we are saying that the end does not justify the means. If a cure for aids came from the Nazi concentration camps, you would no doubt admit, that was a bad trade.  (No, David, your tapdancing doesn't fly.  PeTA opposes all research by any means for any reason.  End of story.)

I know how much it bothers anti-ARAs to be compared to Nazi's this way. But the situation is the same.  (Incoming clue, David - the Nazis killed people.  Your comparison of animal science to the Holocaust is hateful and disgusting.)  Some believe that there is nothing wrong with killing animals(The same feeling Nazi's had of jews, blacks, gypsies and all other non-aryan peoples) And there are some people who find it unthinkable to commit such an act and say that the similarities and desires are close enough to not condone such acts. Is this not true?  (No, David, it isn't.)

You say "Animal Rights Groups claim that humans are naturally vegetarians, that we're better off on a vegetarian or, preferably, a vegan diet.  Is this true?  Well, as with most AR claims, it ain't necessarily so."  While I am unsure of the point you are trying to make here, the websites you list as evidence hardly start to back your claims for "natural." The obvious health benefits have been shown by over a half dozen(Some mentioned on this page )  (Incoming clue, David - that's a pseudoscientific, wack-a-doo "vegan" site.  Not science.  Not reliable.)  studies showing that vegetarians live longer and healthier.  (What studies?  Where)  Saying that it is "natural" for humans to eat meat means nothing. Our natural instints have been put aside for moral reasons, dozens of times. Rape, incest and murder, are all natural urges for humans and yet they are suppressed and illegalized.

If you choose to reply, I am willing to debate this further.

David Usher

We'll see if David is willing to debate right here on these pages, rather than by email.  We're not optimistic.

Subject: why

Hi Woody (PATHWAI):

Against my better judgment, I'm actually going to spend ten minutes of my life responding to your silly Pathwai.com site. I'm continually fascinated with why people like you spend a significant part of their lives devoted to these sorts of feeble "causes." Here a few theories I've come up with over the years:

1. You think you're doing a public service. You actually believe that you're making the world a better place. Of course, with so much animal and human suffering in the world, why does promoting even more suffering make you feel better? It all comes down to the incredible power of rationalization. Without giving it too much thought, you promote your agenda because you're convinced you're doing good, despite all the obvious evidence to the contrary.

2. You have a vested interest. The primary moral imperative of the right-wing is to make a buck. Nothing else matters. Industry front groups abound -- puppets that can voice their self-serving bile without consequences.

3. You're vain. Instead of wallowing in angry anonymity, you use the power of the web to reach a global audience. This gives you some meaning in life. You see your name in print, you see impressive traffic stats, people laud you in the forums--you're a celebrity! In your own mind, at least. A lot better than a pitiful 9-5 job in a cubicle, right?

4. You're poorly educated. The right-wing is not exactly renowned for its critical thinking, and your site is no exception. It's rife with obvious logical fallacies: e.g., you generalize from specific examples (e.g., PETA does not equate with the animal rights movement). You exaggerate your opponent's views, then attack the exaggeration. You rely on tired right-wing clichés about "emotionalism," "common sense" and "irrationality."

5. You grew up in an urban or suburban setting. This may be the biggest factor: you most likely grew up divorced from the natural world, literally or symbolically. You never understood or appreciated the profound links between humans and other animals. Ignorance breeds arrogance. A self-appointed pundit is born.

6. You're immature.  Like a teenager, you attack for the sake of attacking. You think you're being funny, but you're really just a juvenile smart-ass. Like a teenager, you see the world in black-and-white terms: animal rights activists are the enemy, they're evil. How sad. You don't deserve anger, you deserve pity.

In conclusion, Woody, a fruitless plea: I urge you to do something meaningful with your life. Your current path is such a waste. Promoting compassion, understanding, and tolerance -- now that would be a web site!

Cheers, Tim
